When my grandma passed away, I think for the first two years I went crazy. I used to be a banger, so it was a lot of shit we did. One day I went to church with my mom, and it was just like, “She sees all this shit. Do you think your grandma would want you to be like that if she were alive?” The only thing that really changed me was my son. That was the main key. If it wasn’t for my son, I think I’d still be fucking around out here, probably still slinging drugs, still gangbanging, doing all that crazy shit. I’m glad he’s here. I didn’t want no kids, but I’m glad he’s here now, oh my god. If it wasn’t for him, you never know, I might be locked up now or dead—that’s the only choice you’ve got in life on the streets, that’s all we can do. Put it like that—my son saved my life.
