I enjoy building the stretcher bars, I enjoy putting the canvas on, I enjoy making sure that it’s perfect and pristine. Coming up with the ideas, the concepts to make the work, it’s torturous. You just think about yourself and your life constantly. You think about it constantly, every day on the Metra train. Every day, that hour in the morning and the hour after work, I’m constantly trying to think of what’s important to me and how I’m perceiving the world around me and how I would put that on a canvas and have it come off how I feel my life is, and it’s torturous. Then you find the idea, and actually, when you get to paint, that’s the fun part. And it lasts, like, four hours, and then its back to stretching the canvas again and having to do the hard part.
